Unconventional Entrepreneur

The email *experts* tell me I only have 5 seconds to catch your attention in these messages.
Is that true?
How about this: If you want a $5 Billion dollar selling limit like I have on eBay, read on!
That sounds cheesy.
Instead, how about this:
Lots of sellers complain about poor treatment on marketplaces like eBay and Poshmark.
Give me a few minutes of your time, and I will teach you how to avoid the headaches of these complainers.
I use Pavago for staffing - you will be thrilled with the results they provide.
OK, back to our regularly scheduled program:
Over the weekend, I replied to a post about selling on Amazon, and my reply was viewed 1.2 million times.

Many people replied that eBay treated sellers terribly and that it was just as bad or worse than Amazon.
I beg to differ, and heres why my eBay experience is so different from theirs.
I am not some anonymous seller who only interacts with eBay (or Poshmark, or whatever marketplace you sell on) when there is a problem.
By the time you have a problem, if eBay doesnt know you, its too late!
eBay knows me.
Here are the steps to get known and why its important.
And you want to make these connections NOW. Not when you need something from them.
Remember the Law of Reciprocity?
This is why I am sitting on this stage, offering tips at the Becoming eBay conference. That's my tiny head beneath that red arrow.

Here is how to get known:

Step 1:
Go to LinkedIn and search for eBay. Select *People* as the search filter.
99,000 results!

Find the people who work at eBay who are in charge of the categories you are selling in.
Selling luxury items like handbags, jewelry, and watches?
Connect with Nina Skol.
Selling cars? Connect with Chris Prill.
Are you a seller who wants to get involved with the eBay community? Connect with Rebecca Michals, Director of the seller community and community engagement.
You get the idea.
When you make the connection request, be sure to include a note. Something that relates to your eBay account:
--
Hi Nina! I am a new seller in the luxury category, and I just wanted to reach out and let you know how much I appreciate the support and opportunities eBay offers new entrepreneurs.
Or
Hey, Chris! Ive been selling car parts on other marketplaces for years and am now working on bringing my business over to eBay. I am learning a lot and look forward to our mutual success.
Or
Hi Rebecca! Ive been selling on eBay for a few years and am focused on increasing my sales on eBay. Shannon Jean mentioned your name in his newsletter, and I would love to help connect with other sellers that may be just getting started.
--
Dont ask for anything. Just provide some info and wait.
It may take a few times, but these people want to help you succeed. Be persistent and helpful.
Use this same method with Poshmark or any other marketplace you want to sell on.
Dont be an anonymous seller!
Get involved in the ecosystem where you are selling. Be a resource for the community. Help others.
Step 2:
Volunteer.
Join the eBay Community site and get involved in the conversations. Be positive. Dont complain, offer solutions.
Step 3:
Attend events in person and online.
Get involved with other sellers.

The critical part of this process is to start now. It doesnt matter if youve never sold a single item on eBay.
Start making connections today for the business you are building tomorrow.
OKso about that $5 billion seller limit. Its actually $500 Billion, but whos counting?
